Artist Biography
As the instructor and facilitator of discussion, Arlette Ngung creates art for education and social change through her textile arts and workshops.
Arlette’s background plays a tremendous part in her inspiration, from the colourful prints and cultural history of beautiful Eastern and central Africa.
One of her focus is devoted to the preservation and reinterpretation of traditional African Textile Art and natural dyes techniques, to protect the historical heritage of an African Art that had once inspired Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso.
Driven, meticulous and fascinated by textures, Arlette was featured in an interview with CBC Radio Canada where she was profiles for her vegan approach to Art workshops, and providing multicultural content in French language.
With her credentials from the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York USA and Formamod Paris FRANCE, Arlette worked as a pattern maker in womenswear and display for brands such as BCBG Max Azria, Saks Fifth Ave, Victoria’s Secrets stores, Bloomingdales, Holt Renfrew etc... in New York - Paris - Toronto.
Arlette has since developed a keen
eye and interest for the merging
world of fashion textile and art - an
exciting unison she has set out to
explore through her own textile art
